When Debbie and I bought our house in 1989, we decided to make a few "minor" changes. We gutted the place inside and out. We replaced the plumbing and wiring, installed 216 sheets of 4' x 12' sheetrock, relocated and replaced windows, added a new roof and new siding, installed ceramic tile and hardwood flooring, installed 100-plus feet of deck, and completely landscaped the lot. Then, after lunch...
The home theater design idea was born a few years later, when Debbie (yes, this is all HER fault!) gave me a home-theater-in-a-box system for Christmas. The system was way too small for our home, so back to the store it went.
We decided that, if we were going to add a home theater, we should do it right, so we started gathering information. Of course, we wanted to create something truly unique no home-theater-in-a-box for us! The home theaters we saw in magazines were unbelievable and unbelievably expensive. We knew that we wanted a home theater, but how, we didn’t have a big budget to work with.
So to save money and because our home remodeling had gone so well we were confident we could design and build our own theater.
In the process of figuring out how to do it, we discovered Sound & Vision Magazine.
An article entitled "Home Theater Makeover" caught our attention. We thought the folks at the magazine might be interested in our project, so we sent photos and a detailed explanation of our project. Sound & Vision contacted us and said they wanted to feature our project in their October, 2001 issue.
Once we saw the Sound & Vision article, we knew we really wanted a truly unique home theater and started spending more time researching home theaters. We knew we didn’t want just a normal home theater. No, we wanted a custom "theme" home theater. Our quest had begun!
During the design phase I sent Sound & Vision Magazine a few color renderings of our new home theater. This simple home theater project had escalated into a full-blown custom themed home theater. Their response: "We want to feature your completed home theater in another Sound & Vision issue".
Now the pressure was REALLY on!
We started construction in December of 2001. We worked nights and weekends, got a little help from our friends, and sat down to enjoy our first movie in May of 2002. Sound & Vision documented our completed home theater in their September, 2002 issue.
The results exceeded even our own expectations. Not only are the aesthetics of the room a welcome respite from the daily world of reality, the audio & video presentation adds almost unbelievable realism and depth to motion pictures. Everyone including home theater experts agree that our home theater is first-class.
After our completed home theater was featured in Sound & Vision Magazine we receive numerous e-mails and calls from home theater enthusiasts requesting home theater help. A new business was formed to help those folks. And once again, Sound & Vision helped by featuring our new business venture in their November, 2003 issue
We would be glad to help you create your very own home theater. Give us a call, send us an e-mail, schedule a convenient time to visit us or we can make a personal visit to your home.
